It is the duty of this special group to play the most important role for continuity of the existence of a religion and for the observance Of religious rites Therefore laity or the ordinary people treat the clergy of their religion well and are respectful to them as well.

Here we are to consider whether the clergy of all religions can be treated on an equal footing As a result of the misconception that every religion teaches the same thing it has become customary to treat Buddhist monks and clergy men of other religions In the same way Consequently Buddhist monks are not only deprived of the respect they deserve but also are regarded as clergymen of some sort.

The Buddhist Sangha Council of Southern California

Although Buddhism was introduced into this country one hundred years ago, until recently the various temples and centers, struggling for their own survival, remained generally isolated and self-absorbed, with infrequent contact with each other. Early in 1980 a crisis in one of the Buddhist communities prompted several of its monks to call together a number of prominent Buddhist leaders of several temples to discuss the problem.

Sangha Day

This festival is also known as Fourfold Assembly or Magha Puja Day.

Sangha Day is the second most important Buddhist festival. It is a celebration in honour of the Sangha, or the Buddhist community. For some Buddhists Sangha refers only to monks and nuns. It is a chance for people to reaffirm their commitment to Buddhist practices and traditions.
